- (2) QUICK START INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAJESTY DEMO:
-
- Majesty(tm) offers you the throne of a fledgling fantasy kingdom. As ruler, you
- make all the decisions that will steer your kingdom towards its rise or ruin.
-
- Your first action in most quests is to start making buildings. Guilds are the
- heart of your kingdom. From these buildings you recruit the Heroes needed to
- accomplish the goals of the quest.
-
- To begin building, click the mouse on your Palace, the seat of your power. The
- interface window on the middle-left of your screen (we'll be calling it the
- Control Window from here on) will show all the controls for your Palace.
-
- The Buildings Button here will take you to a menu that lets you choose a building
- type. Once your selection is made and you've hit the Build Button, you'll be
- dragging the building on the end of your mouse pointer. You may then click to
- place the building anywhere you like. If the building appears red before you try
- to place it, it means that the structure can not be built on that spot.
-
- While the building is on the cursor, you can press the spacebar to cancel the placement.
- The spacebar will also cancel the spell cursor, when active.
-
- Once a building is placed on the map, it appears as a Construction Site. The
- building will be assembled either by Peasants who come from your Palace, or by
- magical energies.
-
- If you've built a guild, you may now recruit heroes. Your success in completing
- any quest depends mostly on the heroes you choose to recruit. The full version of
- Majesty(tm) offers you sixteen types of heroes, each type recruited from a
- different guild.
-
- To recruit a hero, click on a guild. It's controls will appear in the control
- window. Click the Recruit Button and the building will summon a hero. When the
- hero has arrived, it will appear on your map.
-
- As any true ruler, you can not directly control your subjects. All your kingdom's
- heroes have minds of their own and act according to their own priorities and
- goals. They will not wait for you to tell them what to do. They start to act the
- moment they enter your kingdom.
-
- To motivate your heroes into carrying out your desired actions, you must rely on
- a specific set of tools. Your two main tools are Reward Flags and Spells.
-
- You set Reward Flags from your Palace's control window, using the Rewards Button.
- Flags come in two types, depending on the action you desire: Attack Flags and Explore
- Flags. You choose a flag type and decide how much of a gold reward it will carry.
- Then click with your mouse to place it on the map.
-
- In the full version of Majesty twenty-two spells are also potentially at your
- disposal, allowing you to aid your heroes endeavors. Spells are activated by
- clicking a non-grayed spell icon from the Spell Bar at the bottom on your screen,
- then clicking on a target in your main Game View.
-
- As you build and upgrade more guilds, more spells will become available.
-
- Constructing buildings, recruiting heroes, placing flags, and casting spells all
- cost money ("Gold"). You begin each quest with gold in your treasury. The amount
- is shown at the top of your screen.
-
- After you start spending gold, you'll need to get more. This is where your
- kingdom's economy comes into play. Heroes get money for killing monsters or
- fulfilling Reward Flags. They eventually return this money to their guild or
- temple.
-
- Every Palace has a Tax Collector. This character goes from building to building,
- collecting your share of their profits. Once the Tax Collector has visited every
- building on his route, he returns to the Palace and puts the collected funds into
- your treasury. This, in turn, allows you to build more guilds, temples, and
- heroes.
-
- Those are the basics. Now give it a shot!
